Utilize Search Words

Amazon search words help readers locate the book. KDP permits seven search words or phrases. Find the most common phrases with the highest traffic for books similar to yours. KDP Rocket is a good resource.

Embed the copyright and add keywords (or metadata) into the book and book cover files before they are uploaded to KDP or IngramsSpark. InDesign or Photoshop (file> Document title, author name, rating, key words, copyright information) Adobe Professional Acrobat (Document Properties>description, key words)

KDP Rocket is book marketing software. I bought it for $100 some years back as a one-time purchase. It specifically assists with locating the best search words (metadata), similar books, seeing which books are selling and for how much. It is useful information for developing paid Amazon ads. The idea with KDP Rocket is words are worth money. People type in certain words or groups of words to look for subjects. Some words are typed in more often. And, to add to that information, some words that are typed into the search engine generate more sales than others. For instance, if you have a prayer book and enter the words prayer book into KDP Rocket, it will tell you how many searches per month are made for that phrase. Then it will show who sells what books and the price of the books. The goal of using KDP Rocket is to locate niche topics for your book. Suppose the prayer book sample above is specific to praying for sons who are in military service. It may be better to add a key word group, such as father’s prayer for military son. The topic has been narrowed down and the book is sure to show up on the first pages of a search for these specific words…but is anyone actually typing in THOSE words? Perhaps the words they are typing in are prayers for military children. KDP will tell you. A sure way to get your book on the top pages of a search on Amazon is to find niche topics with high search numbers and a low number of books that will compete with yours.

If you do not have KDP Rocket, you can do a similar search by writing down a list of words that your book represents. Open Amazon, specify books, and type each word or phrase into the search bar. Amazon will give groups of word lists, which are the first several words people are typing into their search bar. For instance, if you type in prayers for military…then Amazon will offer several suggestions on how to complete the sentence based on how many are searching for a similar topic. Those at the top of their list that most closely resemble your topic will be the best word groupings to use as your search words.
